Fromental by Rinck, The Classicist Sketchbook

Rinck introduces a hand-painted silk wallcovering: Fromental by Rinck “The Classicist Sketchbook", marking its new collaboration with the prestigious hand-painted and hand-embroidered wallcoverings company Fromental. The collaboration between the two houses developed through a shared passion for the decorative arts and craftsmanship.

Watch Valentin Goux and Lizzie Deshays discuss their new collaboration.

Understanding that historic references bring depth and longevity to a design, Rinck’s president Valentin Goux drew inspiration from the company’s woodcarving studio and the large-scale draftsman’s sketches of decorative molds used in their interior projects.

“The Classicist Sketchbook” is available in six colors : Almond, Safran, Cobalt, Vanilla, Ciel, and Thyme. Rendered with two different-colored lines to illustrate the depth of the mold, the sketches express the size, depth, and detailing of ornamentation in the carved wood and in bronze. The original sketches were redrawn by Rinck textile designer and then placed across a repeat of three panels, creating the appearance of a page from a designer’s sketchbook.

“Working with our heritage and looking through our archives, we know we are classicists, but this does not mean we cannot have fun. In ‘The Classicist Sketch Book’ blending the double lines with three colours brings an element of pop culture to the design.”
Valentin Goux, President of Rinck

“The harmony of the placement of the ornamentation across the panels, the use of the two coloured lines on a coloured background and the dynamism of the drawings showcases Rinck as both classical and modern.”
Lizzie Deshayes and Tim Butcher, Co-founders of Fromental
