Poetic Accumulation and Illusions

In 2025, Rinck unveils its new furniture collection, Opus Memoria – an artistic exploration inspired by the vision of an illusory demiurge creator whose entire existence was devoted to accumulating works. Each piece embodies the imagination of an ingenious jack-of-all-trades working in the realms of music, painting, and sculpture, leaving behind a wake of unique artistic “totems.”

This narrative philosophy is expressed in the form of objects in which materials overlap and intertwine, giving rise to designs of unprecedented visual and tactile depth and breadth.

“The idea was to encapsulate an entire life of creation, with elements seeming to have been assembled impulsively and instinctively, but which, in fact, reveal leading-edge technical mastery,” explains Valentin Goux, Artistic Director and President of Rinck.

The collection consists of a desk, a chair, a table lamp, a totem lamp, a throne armchair , a cheval mirror, a side table and a rug . No fewer than twenty specialized trades joined forces to bring this ensemble to life: cabinetmaker, upholsterer, gilder, varnisher, painter, ceramist, visual artist, lapidary, and many others. Each piece captures the spirit of the workshop and illustrates Rinck’s technical and artistic prowess.

At Rinck, the creative process arises from a cooperative dynamic in which designers and craftspeople exchange ideas in a spirit of ceaseless emulation. For Opus Memoria, the cross-disciplinary collaboration brought together the workshops’ every department and trade. Bronze, for example, beautifully trims the cheval mirror and desk, while amboyna burl veneers give the desk’s surfaces an organic pattern, echoing 18th-century and Art Deco traditions.

Innovation is also expressed in the fine art of faux esthetics, the surprise of imitation. Unexpected textures and illusions are found across the collection: from painted ceramic emulating a semi-precious stone to a throne crafted of leather draped like natural hide. Each material is transformed by in-depth research to create seemingly simple pieces of highly complex manufacture.

True to its 185-year heritage, Rinck continually challenges and explores the ties between venerable tradition and pioneering modernism. At the heart of this collection is a study of ornamentation, with various elements reinterpreting classic hallmarks: a bronze rope joins the desk’s veneers and is reflected in the rug’s pattern, while a glowing totem, designed jointly with Murano glassmakers, showcases a mastery of glassmaking savoir-faire.

Certain pieces – such as a side table of curved blown glass resting on a stone base – illustrate the technical challenges to be found in uncommon material combinations. The standing desk incorporates advanced engineering solutions to dovetail beauty and function. Rinck, through Opus Memoria, continues to raise the art of furniture collecting to new heights, blending creative daring and artisanal excellence to endlessly rewrite its own history.

A detailed look at the Hébé collection

The Hébé collection, created by Rinck over the course of 2020, was unveiled in January 2021. It is a feminine vision of the smoking room, rife with symbolism of the goddess of eternal youth, cupbearer to the gods and goddesses. Could it suggest a longing to make merry, to escape these morose times in which we find ourselves ? Indeed.
